Our breeding process

At Little Critters, we are passionate about the responsible and ethical breeding of jumping spiders. Discover the meticulous care and dedication that goes into every stage of their lives, ensuring happy, healthy, and friendly pets for your family.

Careful selection for remarkable traits

We will soon specialise in breeding exquisite jumping spiders, maintaining pure bloodlines to ensure the highest quality. We carefully select parent spiders for their friendly and inquisitive temperaments, and their beautiful array of colours, ensuring each spiderling inherits these desirable traits. Our focus is on producing pets that are not only visually stunning but also engaging companions for your family.

Nurturing new life: from egg sac to spiderling

A pregnant (gravid) jumping spider meticulously spins a thick, dense web before laying her precious egg sac inside. She dedicates herself to guarding it for days, sometimes weeks, only venturing out briefly for essential water and occasional food. Once the spiderlings hatch, they remain within the protective confines of the egg sac, absorbing their yolk and growing stronger before venturing into the world.

Preparing for their forever homes

Each and every one of our slings is meticulously documented, from the date they hatch, their feeding schedules and their moulting cycles. We ensure that no sling is sold before reaching its fifth instar (i5), guaranteeing they are thriving, actively hunting, and robust enough to embark on their journey to a new family. This careful preparation ensures a smooth transition and a healthy start in their new environment.

Our commitment to ethical breeding

A key difference that sets Little Critters apart is our unwavering commitment to ethical breeding practices. Every jumping spider we offer is captive-bred, not wild-caught. This ensures the well-being of our animals and contributes to the preservation of natural populations, allowing you to welcome a pet into your home with a clear conscience.
